DAVID and I are writing a new show to star HIM for HBO! That's pretty neat, isn't it? We will be writing over the next three weeks, with the hopes that we shoot in January. If so, there will be a LIVE show that you can attend. All I can say is the stuff we've been writing is as funny as anything we've done, and the show itself is an all new idea that is so perfect for David as a platform for his particular comic voice and talents that it's sick. Seriously, there's something wrong, the devil is making it happen, he must be.
I met these talented brainiacs(not an insult), Andrew Fisher and Leon Mandel, a few years ago. They did a show called "Delirium", which was a live performance done after staying awake for 2 whole days and a night. It was like David Lynch doing sketch comedy. Wait...it was waaaayyy better than that. But it has a Lynchian dreamscape quality. Did I just use the word "dreamscape"? How about this; it's like Spike Milligan and the Goons, but with a darker edge. Ah, what the hell am I talking about?--you'll see some of it in a few weeks and we'll see how sharp your noggin is.
There's a group from England (Sunderland - look it up) called STRAITJACKET who work only in short films, no live performances. They have developed some great pieces and are the first group I've seen who use aspects of film (voice overs, music bed, etc) to create smart, absurd, funny comedy. Check out one here--
And there are two guys from the Groundlings, Andrew Friedman and Michael Naughton, who are mounting a live sketch show that I am helping them put together that will be very funny indeed. I want to make the word "indeed" in that last sentence link you to something...I've got it...click on it and see what I settled on--
That's enough for now. Go 'way...but don't forget to come back.
